Backwater valves are installed in a home’s main sewer line. The valve ensures that a homes wastewater flows one way (to the city’s sewer) but cannot flow the other way (back up into the home’s basement). Every year combined sewers are more and more likely to overload, as more homes put greater demands on the existing sewer infrastructure. Backwater valves are an inexpensive way to prevent flooding, the cost of clean up, and all the mess.
